These guidelines ensure that all opinion articles on Hospitality Net meet our standards for quality, relevance, and integrity. Whether you're a first-time contributor or a regular columnist, please review these guidelines before submitting your work.

Non-Commercial Focus

Opinion articles should focus on insights, analysis, and discussions relevant to the hospitality industry—not promoting specific products, services, or companies.

While you can reference commercial entities for context ("As we've seen with Marriott's approach to..." or "Similar to what Hilton implemented..."), your article shouldn't read like an advertisement or endorsement.

What's acceptable:

  • Using examples from real companies to illustrate your point

  • Discussing industry trends with specific references

  • Analyzing case studies as part of your argument

What's not acceptable:

  • Promoting your company's products or services

  • Including pricing, special offers, or calls to action

  • Writing content that reads like a press release

Editorial Standards

Your article should meet high standards for writing quality, research, and argumentation.

Structure and Clarity

Articles should be well-organized with a clear thesis or main point. Use headings, paragraphs, and formatting in the rich text editor to make your article easy to read and navigate.

Tone and Voice

Write in a professional yet accessible tone that resonates with hospitality professionals at all levels. You can be authoritative without being academic, conversational without being casual.

Length

Most opinion articles run 800-1,200 words, but we'll consider submissions of any length. If your topic needs more space to explore properly, use it. If you can make your point effectively in fewer words, that works too.

Citations and Sources

When citing data, publications, or external sources, provide proper attribution. Use the link tool in the rich text editor to reference your sources directly. This helps readers verify information independently and supports the credibility of your arguments.

Ethics and Responsibility

Write with ethical considerations in mind, treating all subjects with fairness and respect.

Your article must not include:

  • Defamatory content

  • Plagiarized material

  • Offensive or discriminatory language

  • Misrepresentation of facts or sources

We encourage you to uphold the dignity of all individuals and groups, and to promote inclusivity in your discussions.

Authorship and Transparency

Your author profile establishes your credentials and expertise. Make sure your bio, job title, and organization information are accurate and up-to-date, as this transparency fosters trust with our readership.

If you're writing on behalf of your organization, that's fine—just make it clear in your bio or article introduction.

Content Authenticity and Rights

Authentic Authorship

All content you submit must be genuinely written by you as the named author, or you must have explicit permission and rights to publish it on behalf of the actual author.

This means:

  • You wrote the article yourself, or

  • The article was written by someone in your organization and you have their permission to submit it under their name, or

  • You're working with a ghostwriter or editor who knows their work will be published under your name, or

  • You're republishing content you have the legal right to republish

What's not acceptable:

  • Copying articles from other sources without permission

  • Submitting someone else's work as your own without their knowledge

  • Plagiarizing content from any source

Using AI tools to help draft, refine, or improve your article is fine—many authors do. What matters is that you take responsibility for the content published under your name and ensure it reflects your genuine perspective and expertise.

Originality

We strongly prefer original content that hasn't been published elsewhere prior to submission to Hospitality Net. If your article has appeared on another platform, please let us know in your submission.

Your Rights and Our License

By submitting content through the dashboard, you automatically grant Hospitality Net a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, publish, distribute, and display your content across our platforms.

This license includes the right to make minor edits to ensure compatibility with our editorial guidelines and enhance readability, without materially changing your original intent.

You confirm that you have the right to grant this license and that your submission doesn't infringe on the rights of any third parties, including rights to images, videos, or other creative content you include.

Images and Media

Featured Image

We recommend including a hero image for your article. The dashboard will guide you through uploading and cropping your image to ensure it displays properly across all devices.

Technical specifications:

  • Format: JPG or PNG

  • Minimum dimensions: 800 pixels wide

  • Recommended aspect ratio: 4:3 for optimal display in content feeds

You must own or have explicit permission to use any images you upload. Add proper credits in the image source field if required.

Inline Images

You can insert additional images within your article using the image tool in the rich text editor. The same requirements apply: you must have rights to use the images, and they should be at least 800 pixels wide for best quality.

Author Headshot

Upload a high-quality professional headshot when setting up your author profile. We prefer images of at least 250×250 pixels with good lighting and a neutral background.

Your headshot appears on your author profile and alongside your published articles, so choose a photo that represents you professionally.

How to Submit

We strongly encourage you to submit opinion articles through the dashboard. This gives you full control over your content, author profile, and publication settings.

Benefits of using the dashboard:

  • Upload and crop images directly

  • Format your article with our rich text editor

  • Preview how your article will look before publishing

  • Update your author profile and bio

  • Track your published articles

See our How to Publish an Opinion Article guide for complete instructions.

If you prefer, you can still submit articles by email to [email protected].

Please include:

  • Article title and body text (Word, HTML, or plain text—no PDFs)

  • Any inline images as separate files

Note that email submissions take longer to process and don't give you the same control over formatting and presentation.

Publication and Review

Hospitality Net reserves the right to refuse publication of any submitted content or to remove content already published on our platforms.

This decision may be made at any time, without providing a reason, particularly when content:

  • Violates our editorial guidelines

  • Infringes on intellectual property rights

  • Is deemed inappropriate for our readership

  • Contains factual inaccuracies or misleading information

We're not obligated to provide feedback or enter into correspondence regarding decisions to refuse or remove content.

Updates to Guidelines

These guidelines may be updated periodically to respond to emerging trends and standards in publishing and the hospitality industry. We encourage you to review them before each submission to ensure compliance with current standards.
